Exercício: Active and Passive Voice

A voz ativa enfatiza quem praticou a ação, ou seja, no sujeito. 
A voz passiva se preocupa em enfatizar mais a ação. O sujeito não é a parte mais importante e pode ser  muitas vezes omitido.

SIMPLE PRESENT
(Active) They build a lot of houses in Brazil.  - Eles constroem muitas casas no Brazil.
(Passive) A lot of houses are built in Brazil. - Muitas casas são construídas no Brazil.

PRESENT CONTINUOUS
(Active) Barbara is copying the text. - Barbara está copiando o texto. 
(Passive) The text  is being copied by Barbara. - O texto está sendo copiado por Barbara. 


SIMPLE PAST
(Active) Charles wrote the email. - Charles escreveu o email.
(Passive) The email was written by Charles. - O email foi escrito por Charles.

PAST CONTINUOUS
(Active) Sue was doing her homework. - Sue estava fazendo o seu dever de casa. 
(Passive) The homework  was being done by Sue. - O dever de casa estava sendo feito por Sue. 

SIMPLE FUTURE
(Active) The president will visit them. - O presidente os visitarão.
(Passive) They will be visited by the president. - Eles serão visitados pelo presidente.

PRESENT PERFECT
(Active) They have fired her.- Eles a demitiram.
(Passive) She' has been fired. - Ela foi demitida (por eles(as)). "Por eles(as)" pode ser omitido.

Três características importantes da voz passiva:

1) A presença do verbo "to be": am, is, are (presente), is (are) being (presente contínuo), was, were (passado),  was (were) being (passado contínuo), will be (futuro), have/has been (presente perfeito) etc.

2) Verbo principal sempre no passado perfeito (past participle).
3) A preposição "by" + agente da passiva. Ás vezes podemos omitir o agente da passiva quando o mesmo não é necessário.


Com base nas explicações acima coloque as frases a seguir na voz passiva.

a) The picture was painted by Jane.

b) We were scared by rain.

c) He will be hire. A expressão "by the school" não é necessária.

d) He has been selected. A expressão "by them" não é necessária.

e) More than ten book have been written by Jack.

f) My teeth are brushed every day. A expressão "by me" não é necessária se você é adulto e capaz de escovar seus próprios dentes.

g) A delicious cake is being made by Marilyn.

h) It is said that women live longer than men. OR     Women are said to live longer than men. (Impersonal Passive)

i) Ten dogs were rescued by Bob.

j) My DVD player hasn't been repaired by the man.
